Jason Pierre-Paul is Working to Get Healthy

Larry French/Getty Images (EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.) --  As expected New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul was placed on the physically unable to perform list to start training camp, and he is unsure if he'll be healthy enough to play in the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

"I don't know, only time can tell," Pierre-Paul said about playing in Week 1. "It's all on me to recover."

The Giants want to take things slowly with their Pro-Bowl defensive end in order to make sure he will be completely healthy for the upcoming season.  Pierre-Paul told reporters that he is "75 percent healthy," after doing some light running on Friday.

Pierre-Paul , who is entering his fourth NFL season, underwent back surgery on June 4.  He has a history of back issues and says he first began experiencing the pain that led to his surgery two years ago.

"I am happy I did the surgery," he said. "Now there is nothing holding me back when I do get back."

Pierre-Paul was drafted by the Giants with the 15th overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft.  He racked up 66 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and one interception during the 2012 season.
