Jannick Hansen Suspended One Game for Hossa Hit

Len Redkoles/NHLI via Getty (NEW YORK) -- Vancouver Canucks winger Jannik Hansen was suspended by the NHL for one game Wednesday, for his hit on Chicago Blackhawks winger Marian Hossa Tuesday night.

In the third period of the Blackhawks 4-3 shootout win, Hansen smacked the back of Hossa's head with a forearm, dropping the five-time All-Star flat on the ice.

Hossa stayed down for a couple of minutes while the Blackhawks' medical staff tended to him. Hossa eventually got up and made his way to the locker room under his own power but did not return.

In his four season NHL career, Hansen has never had any disciplinary issues with the league. The suspension will cost him $7,297.30.

According to ESPN.com, Hawks general manager Stan Bowman said Hossa wasn't hospitalized for the hit and that initial findings are better than when Hossa was hit by the Phoenix Coyotes Raffi Torres in last year's playoffs. The Torres hit gave Hossa a concussion and ended his season.
