IOC Strips Lance Armstrong of Olympic medal
(LONDON) -- The IOC has stripped Lance Armstrong of his bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, ABC News has confirmed.
The news comes after Armstrong admitted to Oprah Winfrey that he took performance enhancing drugs during a two-part interview that will air Thursday night on the OWN Network.
Armstrong was contacted by two officials of the IOC in a letter that asked Armstrong to return the medal. The IOC discussed revoking the medal last month, but delayed the decision until Armstrong had been stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and all results since 1998.
The IOC said that the move was not in response to the television interview.
