Grambling State Fires Head Coach Doug Williams
(GRAMBLING, La.) -- Super Bowl-winning quarterback Doug Williams was fired on Wednesday as the head coach of Grambling State, after the Tigers dropped their first two games of the season. Running back coach George Ragsdale will take over on an interim basis.
Williams first led the Tigers in 1998, but left in 2004 for a front office job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He returned in 2011, leading Grambling State to a Southwestern Athletic Conference championship.
Last season the Tigers went 1-10, including 0-9 in league play. This year, they lost their opener to Alabama State, 23-9, and last weekend they were trounced by Louisiana-Monroe, 48-10.
