ESPN: Redskins Quarterback Robert Griffin III Will Play Week One

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Washington Redskins fans can breath a sigh of relief. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Robert Griffin III will suit up and play week one of the regular season against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Griffin tore his ACL in his right knee during the playoffs last season, but has worked his way back to health. He has practiced the past two weeks without any issue.

The team has held Griffin back from playing in the preseason because they wanted to make sure he was fully healthy before letting him step back on the field.

He will meet with renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews on Thursday night to get official medical clearance.

"I would say I'm 100 percent, but you can't put a number on it," Griffin told ESPN980 Radio in Washington earlier this week. "No one ever knows when they are 100 percent or what percentage they're playing at. The biggest thing is, I'm not below 100 percent."

Griffin was the second overall pick by the Redskins in the 2012 Draft. Coming off winning the Heisman Trophy, Griffin three for 3,200 yards and 20 touchdowns, as well as 815 rushing yards.
