Debora Robinson/NHLI via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Anaheim Ducks rewarded goalie Viktor Fasth for his strong early season play.

Fasth, who is 8-0-0 in his first NHL season, signed a two-year, $5.8 million contract extension with the Ducks Wednesday.

Fasth will make $2.4 million next season and $3.4 million in 2014-15.

The 30-year-old Swedish star signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Ducks last offseason to back up starter Jonas Hiller. While Fasth still isn't considered the starter he has done great in net posting a 1.78 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage. He also is only the third goalie in NHL history to start their career with wins in their first eight decisions.

"Viktor has proven himself not only this year in the NHL, but the previous two seasons as the top goaltender in Sweden," Ducks General Manager Bob Murray said. "We are pleased to be able to keep him and feel fortunate to have two top goaltenders going forward."

The Ducks (12-2-1) currently have the second best record in the NHL.
