Doug Wojcik Fired by Charleston
(COLUMBIA, S.C.) -- College of Charleston president Glenn McConnel fired men's basketball coach Doug Wojcik on Tuesday.
Wojcik had been under investigation by the school after he was accused of verbally abusing players, coaches, and staffers.
"I greatly appreciate your patience and understanding while the college works to find the best path forward for the men's basketball program. Effective immediately, athletic director Joe Hull is responsible for the men's basketball program," McConnel said in a statement.
Wojcik is owed $1.2 million for the final three seasons of his five-year contract, but the school is trying to avoid paying.
"Today's action by the College of Charleston will not bring closure to the college, the basketball program, or the student-athletes and their families," Wojcik's attorney, Scott Tompsett said.
