Doug Fister Likes How Nationals Rotation Stacks Up

Brian D. Kersey/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- After spending the past few seasons pitching behind Cy Young winners Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer, new Washington Nationals starting pitcher Doug Fister thinks the team's starting five could be the best in all of baseball.

"I've certainly been blessed to be part of some teams and rotations I've been with," Fister told CSNWashington.com. "I think we're just as good if not better."

Fister was traded to the Nationals during the offseason, and is expected to be the team's fourth starter despite having great success in the American League in recent seasons.

He may be confident, but Fister may be right when he talks about the potential of the Nationals' rotation. Fister will join Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmerman, and Gio Gonzalez. That trio had a collected 3.28 ERA, the eighth-best ERA in all of baseball.

The 29-year-old Fister went 14-9 with a 3.67 ERA for the Tigers last season, and was an integral part of their recent success.
