Del Rio Says Welker Will Play Versus Pats

(ENGLEWOOD, Colo.) -- Although listed as "probable" on the Denver Broncos' injury report, receiver Wes Welker is a "definite" to play against his old team the New England Patriots Sunday, according to Broncos interim head coach Jack Del Rio.

Welker suffered a concussion during the Broncos victory over the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday. The injury made it unclear if Welker would get to play in his first game against his old team since leaving this offseason. But Welker passed all of the NFL's concussion tests and practiced in full on Friday, leading Del Rio to declare the 32-year-old ready to go.

"First and foremost, we've done the right thing by the player and he's safe to return,'' Del Rio said. "That's first and foremost.

"It's kind of like Peyton a while back: If you had a 'definitely will go' category, he'll probably be on there. ... He'll play.''

Welker played the previous six seasons in New England. During that time he went to two Super Bowls and caught 672 passes.

Welker has 61 catches for 648 yards and nine touchdowns for the AFC West leading Broncos this season.
