Cubs' Alfonso Soriano Calls Out Closer Carlos Marmol

Joe Robbins/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Carlos Marmol's run as the Chicago Cubs' closer in recent years has been up and down at best. After his latest blown save, one of his teammates, Alfonso Soriano, voiced his frustration.

On Sunday against the New York Mets, the Cubs had a 3-0 lead in the ninth inning...until Marmol came into the game. He wound up giving up four earned runs and in the process blowing the game.

Soriano, who's been with the Cubs since 2007, is tired of seeing the team blow late-inning leads.

"When we have a 99 [-percent] chance to win the game, it's very tough the last inning," Soriano said. "Three outs left and we lost the game. It's unacceptable ... It's hard to swallow. We thought we swept those guys and had some momentum going to St. Louis. It's not a good feeling."

"I don't know. It depends on him," Soriano said when asked about Marmol. "He used to be good. I think he's good, but he's lost a little bit of his confidence, and this game is all about confidence. I hope he gets it back and becomes the Marmol I know."

Dating back to 2009, Marmol has 109 saves, but 25 blown saves as well during that time.
