Bruins Reward Defenseman Dennis Seidenberg with Extension

Christian Petersen/Getty Images(BOSTON) -- The Boston Bruins have taken the necessary steps to keep one of their key players around for the long haul as they've rewarded defenseman Dennis Seidenberg to a four-year extension.

The team announced that the two sides have agreed on a four-year deal worth $16 million. Seidenberg was in the final year of a four-year, $13 million deal with Boston.

Even since he was acquired via trade with the Florida Panthers in March 2010, he's been a steadying force on the team's blue line.

"It was very important," Seidenberg said. "I have a lot of fun playing here. The coaches have trust in me and that's the important thing. I mean, If I go somewhere else for a lot of money and things don't work out that way, it's always -- I think the on-ice situation is the most important part. We have a good team here and in the future I think we're going to be good for a lot of years."

Seidenberg's deal with the Bruins includes a 2.5 year no-trade clause, then a partial no-trade clause during the remainder of the deal.
