Browns Name Hoyer Starter for Opening Preseason Game
(BEREA, Ohio) -- For now, the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback is Brian Hoyer. Browns head coach Mike Pettine announced Hoyer will start preseason game one on Saturday night against Detroit.
Before the decision there appeared to be a slight chance rookie QB Johnny Manziel would get the start, but in the end, Pettine stuck with the veteran.
"It was (Hoyer's) job," Pettine said Wednesday. "He was 'the one' coming into it. We did want to mix the groups up, as we did. But he's done nothing to have that taken away from him, so he'll be out there with the starters."
Hoyer started three games for the Browns last season, winning all of them. During those games he completed 59 percent of his passes for 615 yards, while throwing five touchdowns and three interceptions.
