Black Onyx Scratched from Kentucky Derby

Rob Carr/Getty Images(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) -- Black Onyx has been scratched from Saturday's 139th running of the Kentucky Derby due to a "non-displaced chip in his left front ankle."

Trainer Kelly Breen decided to scratch the 50-1 horse on Friday morning.

"The horse has a minor limp. He's not three-legged," Breen said. "He's back at the barn, and I don't think he's feeling too bad because he just tried to bite me."

Jockey Joe Bravo will now be without a horse on the Derby mount.

"I just feel really bad for the owner and for Kelly's whole team," Bravo said. "I'm just very thankful the horse is going to be OK. Maybe [discovering the injury] was a blessing in disguise."

Black Onyx qualified for the Kentucky Derby after winning the Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park.
