Angels' Ryan Madson Suffers Setback from Tommy John Surgery

(TEMPE, Ariz.) -- After undergoing Tommy John Surgery last spring, new Los Angeles Angels' closer Ryan Madson has suffered a setback in his recovery.
Madson says the hiccup in rehab came on Feb. 1 while throwing a bullpen session.
Manager Mike Scioscia doesn't seem too concerned about the status of his new closer though.
"Some days he's going to move ahead. Sometimes rehabbing is up and down," Scioscia said. "We expect him at some point in April. ...He's a guy that obviously is important to us. We have to error on the side of caution."
During the offseason, Madson signed a one-year deal worth $3.5 million in guaranteed money, plus another $3.5 million in incentives. He signed with the Cleveland Indians during last year's offseason, but never threw a single pitch for the team in the regular season as he was shut down during spring training.
He last pitched back in 2011 for the Philadelphia Phillies. That year, the 32-year-old Madson went 4-2 with a 2.37 ERA with 32 saves.
