Protest Erupts in North Dakota Town over Plans for White Enclave

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(LEITH, N.D.) -- Leith, N.D., was in an uproar over the appearance Sunday of white supremacists and hundreds of people who traveled to the small town to protest the racist group.

It all started when the National Socialist Movement held a town hall meeting in support of Craig Cobb, who has bought nine plots to develop a white enclave in the rural farming community with a population of just 28.

By mid-day, the white supremacists and their antagonists were getting into some pretty heated confrontations although there was no physical violence because of a heavy presence of law enforcement officers who were prepared in the event things really spun out of control.

Things quieted down by nightfall with everyone leaving although the issue of Cobb's property is certain to crop up again.

Mayor Ryan Schock is glad to have his town back and admits that Sunday's festivities were really the first time he had to deal with any crisis concerning Leith.
