Indiana University Freshman Dies After Accident at Party
(BLOOMINGTON, Ind.) --A freshman at Indiana University has died from injuries she sustained after allegedly falling during a party early Friday morning.
Rachael Fiege, 19, was taken off life support and pronounced dead just after 8 a.m. Saturday, the Indianapolis Star reports.
The Zionsville, Ind. native was at a party at an off-campus house in Bloomington, Ind. Friday night. It is believed she fell down a flight of stairs between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m.
According to the Indianapolis Star, other students did not realize the extent of her injuries and let Fiege fall asleep at the house. The next morning, they realized Fiege was not breathing and called for help.
The University police said they believe Fiege suffered a head injury. She was pronounced brain dead at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Officials do not yet know if alcohol was involved in Fiege's death, the Indianapolis Star reports. University police are investigating the cause of the accident.
According to the Indianapolis Star, Fiege was scheduled to begin her first college classes Monday. She had planned to study pre-nursing.
