Woodlawn Wins Third Consecutive Title at Sesser-Valier
The Woodlawn Cardinals are champions for the thirdstraight year at the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament following a 65-56 victory
over Goreville Monday afternoon in the tournament’s 34th annual
installment.
The Cardinals trailed only once early in the game before scoring
eight straight points and leading 16-8 after the first quarter. Woodlawn scored
the first seven points of the second quarter but the Blackcats of Goreville
ended the half on a 9-0 run of their own. Goreville kept chipping away at the
Woodlawn lead in the second half, but the Cardinals held on for the victory,
its third straight SVHT title win over Goreville.
Woodlawn’s Gabe Owens led all scorers with 17 points.
