Woodlawn Wins Third Consecutive Title at Sesser-Valier

The Woodlawn Cardinals are champions for the third

straight year at the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament following a 65-56 victory

over Goreville Monday afternoon in the tournament’s 34th annual

installment.

The Cardinals trailed only once early in the game before scoring

eight straight points and leading 16-8 after the first quarter. Woodlawn scored

the first seven points of the second quarter but the Blackcats of Goreville

ended the half on a 9-0 run of their own. Goreville kept chipping away at the

Woodlawn lead in the second half, but the Cardinals held on for the victory,

its third straight SVHT title win over Goreville.

Woodlawn’s Gabe Owens led all scorers with 17 points.
