Wildcats 2nd, Lady Cats 4th At Apollo Track ChampionshipsEFFINGHAM - The Salem Wildcats boys track team placed 2nd at the Apollo Conference Championships with a strong effort at Effingham High School.
The team title was captured by the Mt Zion Braves with 127.5 points and the Wildcats were right behind with 121 with a strong performance in the field events.
Chase Mercer won the triple jump with a leap of 42' 9.5" and Rob Foreman, in his first time triple jumping in competition, placed 2nd with a jump of 42' 2.5". Foreman also placed in the pole vault with a 4th place finish, was 5th in the 200 meter and anchored the 4x100 relay team.
With a gutsy effort, Tyler Jourdan won the pole vault with a clear of 15 feet.
On the track, distance runner Brenner Webster had a big night. Webster won the 3200 meter, came back to finish 4th in the 800 meter and then was 2nd in the 1600 meter.
Dan Dillion was 2nd in both hurdle races. Sam Green was 2nd in the 400 meter and 3rd in the high jump. Clay Irwin was 3rd in the shot put and Nic Helm came up big in the discus with a 2nd place throw.
Earning All-Conference honors were Brenner Webster in the 3200 meter and 1600 meters, Chase Mercer in the triple jump, Rob Foreman in the triple jump, Dan Dillion in the 110 and 300 hurdles, Tyler Jourdan in the pole vault, Nic Helm in the discus and Sam Green in the high jump.
EFFINGHAM - The Salem Lady Wildcats finished in 4th place at the Apollo Conference Championships.
Finishing first or second and gaining All-Conference honors included Cassie Brashear in the shotput. Allie Hood set a new personal record with a jump of 5 feet in the high jump. Emily Baer set a new personal record and is 4th all-time at SCHS with her finish in the 200. Alexa Smith finished her 100 meter high hurdles in a time which was good enough for 7th all-time at SCHS.
Other individual performances included Emily Baer setting a new personal record time in the 100 meters of 12.87. That was good for 3rd place in the competition and tied for 4th all-time at SCHS.
Megan Ross finished 4th in the shot put and 5th in the discus.
Kayle Kloppedal finished 4th in the 100 meter high hurdles. She also finished 5th in the triple jump, which is a personal record with a jump of 32 feet and 1 inch. That is good for 8th all-time at SCHS.
Saegan Phillips finished 3rd in the 800 meters, Allie Hood 4th in the 400 meters, Alexa Smith 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles, and Alyssa Vest was 5th in the 100 and 200 meter dash.
