Wildcat Golfers Have Solid Round, Top KnightsThe Salem Wildcats had some young golfers step up in a big way en route to defeating Mater Dei Tuesday in Salem.
The Cats carded a 154 a day after a 153 at Sandoval. The Knights finished with a 181.
Salem coach David Lever says the team is playing well late in the season.
"You know, we're kind of getting to that point, getting to that late-season push. We have just a few weeks left. So we're getting down to the end and it's good to see those scores continuing to come down and hopefully keep pushing that direction."
Robbie Foreman medaled with a one-under-par 35. Joe Tolliver, another senior, carded a 39. Salem freshmen Connor Brooks and Brendan Boles had season-best marks as well, helping Salem cruise to victory.
"Our top guys have always kind of been there. What's really cool right now is Connor Brooks and Brendan Boles, two freshmen, counting tonight with a 39 and a 41, and really kind of early on, we were a little bit four-strong. And if our top four stumbled at all, we were in trouble. But to have a couple freshmen step up and put in scores like that, that's what we want to see."
Salem is in match play this Saturday at the Country Club. The first group tees off at 8am.
