Two Salem Special Olympians Advance to StateTwo members of the Salem Special Olympics Bowling team earned gold medals at the recent regional competition in Mt Vernon and advanced to the next level of competition.
Freshman Rebecca Hess was a gold medalist for Area 14. Jessica Dickerson also earned a gold medal for having an improved average. The two will compete at the state competition next month at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights.
Freshman Dakota Gambrel earned a silver medal while Dakota Rogers and Cheyenne Church both earned the bronze. Stephen Saatkamp earned a fourth-place ribbon for Salem.
Several volunteers were on hand for the bowling competition this past Wednesday, and the coaches are Melanie Parker and Kyla Cook. The team is from Ms. Helbig's homeroom class at Salem Community High School.
