Tigers Claim SIT CrownThe Edwardsville Tigers used a fast start and perimeter shooting to defeat the Centralia Orphans 61-43 and claim back-to-back Salem Invitational Tournament crowns and their eighth championship at the SIT. The Tigers have either won or been the runners-up in the last four tournaments and seven of the last eight.
Edwardsville earned their 17th win of the season on the strength of their 24-point first quarter, Twenty-seven of the Tigers' 61 points came from behind the arc. Centralia tried to keep pace early, but the Orphans managed only twenty points by halftime.
Jake Wood knocked down the only three-pointers for Centralia, and the junior stand-out finished with a team-high 17 points.
Edwardsville was led by Tre' Harris, as the 6'5" senior scored a game-high 21 points. Armon Fletcher tallied twelve points and Garret Covington added ten.
The Orphans' record slips to 14-5 with the loss.
Other finals from the last day of the Salem Invitational Tournament saw Mt Vernon's Jake Pike hit a three-pointer to give the Rams a 38-36 lead with roughly 30-seconds left before they won the consolation final 39-36 over Marion in a battle of South Seven teams. And Effingham claim third place with a 48-34 win over Triad.
