Salem Wins Third Grade Tourney

The Salem Little Cats third grade boys basketball team won the Sandoval Tournament by topping the host Blackhawks 18-16 in overtime in the title game.

Salem forced overtime when Hunter Russell showed he had ice in his veins, nailing two free throws with .9 seconds left in regulation. In overtime, it was Nicholas Gregg who connected for two foul shots to give Salem the win.

Russell and Gregg each scored six points to lead Salem. Griffin Day scored four points and Keaton Wilkerson added a pair.

Sandoval may have finished in second place in the third grade tourney, but the fourth grade Blackhawks claimed the crown in their tournament, beating Salem in the championship game.
