Salem Struggles at Effingham

Effingham jumped out to a 20-5 lead in the first quarter on the way to a 40-point rout of Salem Friday night. The Flaming Hearts also claimed the Apollo Conference championship in the 69-29 win.

Salem struggled to score points all game long, as no Wildcats made it to double figures. Salem was down 35-11 by halftime and only had twenty points by the start of the fourth quarter. Both teams played their reserves in the fourth quarter as Effingham had the game well in hand.

Junior Donte Rush led eight Wildcats in scoring with eight points. Nick Conklin tallied seven. Jake Stombaugh led the Hearts with a game-high eighteen points.

Salem drops to 3-19 on the season with two games left to play before the regional tournament. The Wildcats travel to Marion Tuesday night.
