Salem Senior Signs to Join SIC
Salem Community High School Senior Taylor Smith willcontinue her softball career after graduation. Smith signed her letter of
intent and scholarship agreement earlier this month to play for Southeastern
Illinois College in Harrisburg.
Smith says that with college selection, just like real
estate, it’s all about location, location, location.
“I’m not really into big cities. I can visit them, but it’s
[Southeastern] kind of in the country, just small town and I really like it. You
know when you get on the college campus, you can tell it’s where you want to
be, where you see yourself.”
Smith had 25 hits in 84 at-bats as a junior, good for a .298
batting average. Her career average is .301 with 47 hits, 11 doubles, and three
homeruns. Then Smith spelled out her
goals for the upcoming season.
“I hope we have a winning season, which I think we will
because we have a lot of young talent…hopefully to hit more homeruns, and
basically just to have fun and be ready for college ball.”
While playing softball at SIC, Smith will also participate
in the pre-BSN program in Harrisburg. After two years, Smith plans to transfer
to SIU-Edwardsville to complete the Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Smith says
as of now, she’s not sure if she’ll pursue softball beyond Southeastern
Illinois College.
