Salem Drops Pair to MascoutahThe Salem Southwest Wildcats dropped a pair of home games Sunday afternoon to Mascoutah.
Salem dropped the first game 10-4 after Mascoutah scored six runs in the sixth inning. TJ Alberson started and received a no-decision. The lefty struck out four, walked four, and gave up four runs on six hits. Wyatt McGhee pitched in relief, walking three batters who would break the tie. Jared Banning finished the game on the mound. McGhee led Salem at the plate, going 2-4 with a double. Sam Beavin, Evan Maxey, Jon Kingery, and Alberson all added singles.
Salem fell in the nightcap 6-4 as a seventh-inning rally fell short. Trailing 6-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the home team put three runs across the plate. Hits were hard to find as the 'Cats managed just five singles. Zach Tate, Nick Conklin, McGhee, Alberson, and Kingery all had basehits in the contest. Maxey tossed six innings of four-hit baseball, allowing four runs while striking out four.
Salem is now 13-6 and will host Columbia for a pair of league games on Wednesday.
