Orphans Top Mt. Vernon, 49-36
The Centralia Orphans took an early first quarter lead and never trailed in a 49-36 victory over Mt. Vernon Friday night. The Orphans built an 11-3 lead in the first quarter. The Rams brought themselves back into the game in the second quarter, at one point only trailing by three points, 18 to 15. However, a 9-0 run that followed by the Orphans gave Centralia a 27-15 half-time lead. Mt. Vernon near came close again in the second half. Chase Alcorn led the Orphans with 15 points. The Rams didn't place anyone in double figures. Travor Flota had a game high eight points for Mt. Vernon.In other South Seven games, Cahokia topped Carbondale 89 to 60 and Belleville Althoff beat Marion 56 to 49.
