Orphans Head to Fifth Place Semi-FinalThe Centralia Orphans had big production in the second and fourth quarters to advance to the fifth-place game Saturday afternoon in the 70th Centralia Holiday Tournament, defeating McCluer North 54-45 Saturday morning.
Jake Wood scored eight of his game-high nineteen points in the second quarter as the Orphans built a 30-18 halftime lead. However, Centralia was outscored by the Stars 18-4 in the third quarter and found themselves down 36-34 entering the final frame. But five Orphans scored twenty points in the fourth to lift the tournament hosts to the fifth-place game, where they will face the Effingham Flaming Hearts at 4:30.
Jerod Simmons-Young also reached double figures, scoring fourteen points, eight in the fourth quarter.
Rashad Lindsey paced the Stars with seventeen points.
Effingham advances to the fifth place game with their 44-41 win over Oak Lawn Richards. Bill Hawley and Greg Mehochko will have the game at 4:30 on WJBD and WJBDRadio.com.
