Orphans Dominate WildcatsThe Centralia Orphans opened a 13-4 first quarter lead en route to a dominant 58-28 win over the Salem Wildcats in their Salem Invitational Tournament.
The Wildcats amassed only nine points by halftime and trailed by fourteen heading into the locker room. Centralia continued to distance themselves in the second half, out-scoring the host Cats 14-9 and 21-10 in the third and fourth quarters respectively.
Jerod Simmons-Young led ten Orphans in scoring with thirteen points. Jake Wood added twelve points for Centralia, who advanced to play Triad Friday night.
Brody Frederick and Nick Conklin each scored seven points to lead Salem who draws Marion in the consolation semifinals Saturday afternoon.
Triad squeaked past Marion 51-49 by hitting a three-pointer off of an in-bounds play that started with one second left.
Championship semifinal action begins Friday night at 7:00pm when Effingham faces Edwardsville. The Centralia-Triad game will follow at 8:30 and be heard on 100.1 FM WJBD.
