Lady Wildcat Bowlers Heading to StateThe Salem Lady Wildcat Bowling Team is Rockford-bound after winning the Mt Vernon Sectional Tournament Saturday. Salem won the tourney ahead of the host Lady Rams by almost two hundred total pins.
Sophomore Morgan Vanhoutin took second place individually with 1,217 pins, just 42 shy of first place.
Head Bowling Coach Steve Ludwig said that Vanhoutin's performance was solid in a low-scoring sectional.
"She averaged 203 for the day and it was a little bit lower scoring sectional as it played a little more difficult. That 203 average was a really nice average. I think the leader shot about a 208."
Rebecca Stricklin of Harrisburg was the overall winner at Mt. Vernon.
Salem heads to Rockford with work to do as they sit in the bottom half of the qualifiers.
"We qualified seventeenth in the state out of twenty-four so we didn't have a really high qualifying score."
Ludwig says the primary goal for the first day is to be in the top twelve and guarantee a spot in the second day of competition. Beyond that, Ludwig says he's like the Alley Cats to be keeping pace with the top six teams. The state bowling tournament is Thursday and Friday.
