Lady Cats and Centralia Pull Off Wins, Salem Boys Drop Nail Bitter

The Salem Lady Wildcats held Centralia to a meer 3 points in the third quarter as they were building a nearly 30 point lead on their way to a 58-36 victory over the Annies at The Arena.  Nobody was in double figures, but 10 Lady  Cats scored including 9 apiece for Heather Henson and Morgan Hawkins.  Salem was also solid again from the free throw line going 25-33.  Coach Janet Holsts squad got back over 500 at 13 and 12.  They will head to Mt Zion on Monday and then close out the Apollo season with a trip to Effingham Thursday night.  Salem will get another shot at Centralia when they play the Annies to open the Centralia 3A Regional in the play in game with the winner getting Mater Dei.

The Salem Wildcats blew a 6 point lead with 1:36 to play and Greenville came back to beat the Wildcats 59-56 at the Pinckneyville Shootout.  Salem led 53-47 with 1:36 but missed Free Throws by the Cats down the stretch spelled doom.  Salem fell to 3-15 on the season and will have a week off before traveling to Charleston on Friday night.

The Centralia Orphans were able to salvage a win in a game that came down to the final minutes.  They pulled out a 55-54 win over Jerseyville when Jerod Simmons-Young first tied the game when he tipped in a shot just before the buzzer and after being fouled on the play shot the winning free throw with no time left.  At one point in the fourth quarter, Centralia was up ten points.
