(HIGHLAND) - The Salem Lady Wildcats run at the Highland Tournament ended on Wednesday night with a 62-54 loss to Cowden Herrick-Beecher City.

Morgan Hawkins led Salem with 18 points, Annie Tucker also continued her solid play with 13.

4-year starter Micah Jones made her presence felt with 7 blocked shots and 19 rebounds to go along with her 17 points and number of assists to open teammates.  Ava Paruleski finished with a game-high 22 points.

Salem had cut into a double digit lead and trailed by 3 late in the third quarter, but Jones banked home a three-pointer as time expired to extend the Hornets lead to 6.

Salem once again cut that deficit to 2 in the final frame but CHBC finished the fourth quarter shooting 10-10 at the foul line to seal the win.

Salem will host Effingham for first place in the Apollo on Tuesday night before hosting Mattoon Thursday night from B.E. Gum.

CHBC advances to the consolation finals on Saturday morning at 10:00 when they take on Highland after their 57-43 victory over Nokomis.

A shocker in the first championship semifinals saw Class 2A's #2 team Nashville fall for the first time as they lost to Belleville West 32-26.  The Hornettes made just 9 field goals the entire game/
