(LOS ANGELES) --  After a three month delay thanks to the NHL lockout, the Los Angeles Kings finally raised their first Stanley Cup championship banner before their season-opening game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The problem is the Kings forgot they had a game to play after the ceremony, which celebrated their improbable run in last year's playoffs where they became the first eighth-seeded team in NHL history to win the Cup.

The Blackhawks knocked off the Stanley Cup champs 5-2 behind two goals and an assist from Marian Hossa.

Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane each added a goal and an assist each for the Blackhawks (1-0-0), who jumped out to a 3-0 lead 15 minutes in and never looked back.  Corey Crawford stopped 19 shots.

Rob Scuderi and Jordan Nolan scored goals in the loss for the Kings (0-1-0), while Jonathan Quick had 17 saves.

The Kings returned every single player from their playoff roster last season, which is a rare feat in professional sports.
