Holiday Tournament Wraps
The Salem Lady Wildcats took 2nd at the Mattoon Holiday Tournament losing to Olney in overtime 80-73. Sophomore guard Kaylee Beer hit a 3 pointer with under 10 seconds left to send the game into extra time. Salem falls to 8-8 after a 4-1 week. Kyla Cook and Morgan Hawkins were both named to the all-tournament team. Salem will play Effingham on Thursday night before heading to Olney for a rematch with the Tigers on Saturday.
At Centralia, Cahokia won their 2nd straight CHT Title after their 65-58 win over Jacksonville. Belleville West came from behind to defeat Chicago Marist in the 3rd place game 53-49. Alton took home the consolation title with their 58-44 win over Burbank St Laurance and the host Orphans wrapped up a 5th place finish following their 55-38 win over Ron Reed and the Effingham Flaming Hearts. Centralia’s Jerrod Simmons Young was named to the all-tournament team.
At Vandalia, it was Pana defeating the host Vandals to claim the championship 56-44. Altamont came in as the 7th seed but after a 4-1 week they earned 3rd place defeating top seed Flora 54-45. St Elmo needed overtime but knocked off #2 seed Maroa Forsyth in the 5th place game 58-55, Shelbyville nipped South Central in the 7th place game 30-27 and St Anthony won their only game of the tournament by defeating Greenville 66-40.
Top seed Briarcrest Christian won the Mater Dei Holiday Tournament with a one point win over Breese Central. Sacred Heart Griffin needed overtime to knock off the 10th seeded Mascoutah Indians in the 3rd place game 62-60. Mater Dei took 5th and Nashville 7th.
From the Mascoutah girls tournament, Nashville earned an impressive win over Breese Central in the title game 44-31. Okawville was 3rd over Belleville East 51-44, Mater Dei 5th over Belleville West 52-41 and O’Fallon took home the consolation title over Althoff 59-50.
The Christ Our Rock Stallions took 3rd at the Dieterich boys tournament beating the host Maroons 65-62 behind 21 from Tyler Burmester.
Today will wrap up the tournament from Sesser Valier. The consolation bracket winner willb e decided when Sesser Valier takes on Zeigler Royalton this morning followed by Waltonville and New Athens for 5th place4. The 3rd place game will kick off at noon with Christopher and Sparta. Then at 3:30 top seed Woodlawn will take on #2 Goreville.
