Franklin Park Handles Mt. Vernon in FiveThe bats woke up in a big way for Franklin Park Tuesday as the Bobcats defeated Casey School from Mt. Vernon 14-3 in five innings.
Max Phillips went 3-3 to pace the Bobcats. Nate Roth, Trevor Banning, Matt Davis, and Isaak Hays all went 2-2. Six other Bobcats all had a hit apiece.
Head Coach Marty Adams says getting guys on base and coming through with a timely hit after had evaded the Bobcats the last couple games.
"The past two games, we just had trouble getting guys in scoring position, [and didn't get] timely hits, and tonight we were able to do that. It seemed like our main guys hit the ball hard almost every time up to the plate. That gives us some confidence from this point on."
Nate Roth was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits in five innings. Roth struck out eight Mt. Vernon batters. Adams says Roth threw the ball well while the defense did its job.
"Nate Roth did a terrific job. We knew that he needed to throw strikes today and make them put the ball in play. And we played okay in the field, but [Roth] did his job, getting the ball over the plate and making [Casey] swing the bat."
The Bobcats are off until Saturday when Harrisburg, Collinsville, and Flora come to Salem for the annual Bobcat Tournament. Franklin Park plays at noon and 4pm.
