Franklin Park Boys First at Regionals

The Franklin Park Bobcats ran away with first place at the SIJHSAA Regional Meet at Highland, sending several athletes to the state meet next weekend.

Salem took first with 147 points. Collinsville was a distant second with 92.5 points. The Lady Bobcats finished in third place behind Centralia and Collinsville.

Clay Irwin set a new school record in the discus, winning first place with a mark of 151’ 10 ½” and also won the shot put. Isaak Morton took first place in the pole vault while Caden Owens won the 800-meter run. Franklin Park’s 4x400 relay team of Barnfield, Morton, Snodsmith, and Owens also took first place.

The Lady Cats set a new school record in the 4x100 meter relay (Brittin, Vest, Goostree, Wimberly) and also placed first in the 4x400 relay (Vest, Phillips, Brittin, Wimberly). Hailey Wimberly is a regional champ in the 400-meter dash.

Finishing second and also qualifying for the state meet:

Alyssa Vest - 8th Grade 100m

Hailey Wimberly - 200m

Brenden Boles - High Jump

Cole Steward - Shot Put

Jimmy Allison - Pole Vault

7th Grade 4x200 - Sarver, Harness, Allison, Wayer

Varsity 4x200 - Owens, Ruckman, Allison, Barnfield

Hayden Wimberly - 1600m

Caden Owens - 400m

The Franklin Park state qualifiers will compete at the state meet in Carterville on Saturday, May 11.
