Cubs Call Up Pitcher and Send Another Down

CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Cubs have selected right-handed pitcher Michael Bowden's contract from Triple-A Iowa and optioned left-hander Brooks Raley to the minor league club.

The team announced the moves before Thursday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Bowden made the Cubs' Opening Day roster and was 1-2 with a 3.78 ERA in 14 relief appearances entering Thursday's game. He was designated for assignment May 21 to make room with Matt Garza returning from the disabled list.

Raley allowed two runs in 4 1-3 innings of relief in a 13-2 loss to the Angels on Wednesday - his lone appearance with the Cubs.
