Cougars Rout North Clay to Advance

The South Central Cougars are returning to the sectional

championship after a dominating 11-3 win over North Clay on Wednesday.

The Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first

inning. Kyle Bray’s two-run homerun capped an inning that included a sacrifice

fly by Heath Hoffman that scored Fischer Tharp. South Central added a run in

the third and fourth innings while the Cardinals got on the board in the third

inning. It was a breakout fifth for the Cougars, however, as they plated six

runs, including Austin Schwarm’s three-run blast. North Clay scored twice in

the home half of the fifth to ensure the the game lasted a little longer, but

the Cardinals would get no closer.

Dan Diss pitched six innings for the win, giving up eight

hits while walking three and striking out nine. Dylan Peters worked the

seventh, giving up two hits but striking out the side.

Bray finished the game 3-4. Diss was 3-5 with a double and

an RBI. Schwarm and Tharp were both 2-4. Tharp drove in two runs.

South Central’s opponent in the Cumberland Sectional

Championship will Windsor/Stew-Stras, who defeated Edwards County 6-0 last

night. The championship game will be played Saturday at 11am.
