Cougars Rout North Clay to AdvanceThe South Central Cougars are returning to the sectional
championship after a dominating 11-3 win over North Clay on Wednesday.
The Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first
inning. Kyle Bray’s two-run homerun capped an inning that included a sacrifice
fly by Heath Hoffman that scored Fischer Tharp. South Central added a run in
the third and fourth innings while the Cardinals got on the board in the third
inning. It was a breakout fifth for the Cougars, however, as they plated six
runs, including Austin Schwarm’s three-run blast. North Clay scored twice in
the home half of the fifth to ensure the the game lasted a little longer, but
the Cardinals would get no closer.
Dan Diss pitched six innings for the win, giving up eight
hits while walking three and striking out nine. Dylan Peters worked the
seventh, giving up two hits but striking out the side.
Bray finished the game 3-4. Diss was 3-5 with a double and
an RBI. Schwarm and Tharp were both 2-4. Tharp drove in two runs.
South Central’s opponent in the Cumberland Sectional
Championship will Windsor/Stew-Stras, who defeated Edwards County 6-0 last
night. The championship game will be played Saturday at 11am.
