Cougars Fall In NTC Title Game

(ST ELMO) - In the end, it was one big inning that cost South Central their first NTC Tournament title, as St Anthony scored four runs in the fifth without a hit on their way to a 4-1 victory.

Dan Diss walked five in the fifth inning and St Anthony used an error and a miscue on a pick off play to scratch across four runs.

Those runs were more than enough for Bulldogs starter Ben Hecht.  The right hander struck out 15 but was wild at times with 5 walks and hit 3 batters. 

The Cougars didn't have a hit until the sixth with a Kyle Bray leadoff single.  He would eventually come around to score on an infield single by Fischer Tharp but their rally would end with the bases loaded on another Hecht strikeout.

Diss didn't allow an earned run but 9 walks didn't help.

South Central finishes a successful Fall campaign with a regular season conference title and an overall record of 16-5-1.  St Anthony finished up their season at 18-4.

Neoga won the third place game with a 6-4 win over Stewardson Strasburg.
