Centralia and Sandoval Pick Up Wins In Girls BasketballThe Centralia Orphan Annies picked up another last minute win at the Effingham Tournament with a 50 to 49 win over Dieterich. The lead changed three times in the final minute, with the Annies going ahead for good with just 13 seconds left on the clock when Abbey Holtkamp pulled down a rebound after a jump shot by Braniqueka Engelkins went off the rim. Centralia was led by Holtkamp with 22 points and Holly Mays with 17. Centralia had been down early in the contest, 14 to 6 at the end of the first quarter and 25 to 21 at halftime. The win improves Centralia to 6-13. They take on the unbeaten Effingham Hearts at 7:45 tonight.
The Sandoval Lady Hawks beat South Central 54 to 24. Christonia Saddler had 16, Bethany Kunick 14 to lead the Hawks. South Central received 14 points from Abey Hahn. The Lady Blackhawks are now 9-4 and will host Brownstown at home on Thursday night. South Central plays at Webber Township Wednesday night. Sandoval won the JV game 15-8.
