Centralia Wins, Sandoval and South Central Fall In Girls BasketballThe Centralia Orphan Annies won their third in a row with a 53 to 42 win over Okawville. Centralia led by only three points early in the fourth quarter before building to the 11 point victory. Lauren Smith led the annies with 15 points, all scored in the second half.
In other girls basketball action, the Sandoval Lady Hawks fell to North Clay 49 to 45. Coach Brenda Kunick says the Hawks led 40 to 33 at the end of the third quarter, but was only able to score five points n the final quarter allowing the Lady Cards to take a last second lead and eventual victor. Christonia Saddler led the hawks with 22 points and 8 rebounds, followed by Bethany Kunick with 13 points and 8 rebounds. K. Stanfield led North Clay with 23 points. In JV action Sandoval lost 27-43. Vinnie Reed led the JV Hawks with 11 points. The Lady Hawks will play Wayne City Saturday Feb. 1st as a make up game at 2pm at Wayne City followed with 4 games the following week before regional play begins on Feb 10 at New Athens.
Dieterich topped South Central 57 to 24. Abby Hahn had 18 points for South Central. South Central hosts Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School on Tuesday night.
