Cats End Regular Season with Loss
The Salem Wildcats wrapped up the regular season with a 72-40 loss at Mt. Zion Friday night, capping a 3-21 season.Salem never led in the game, but had the deficit down to two points late in the first quarter. But then the host braves went on an 8-1 run to lead 20-11 at the end of the frame. The Cats managed only four points in the second quarter and only out-scored the host Braves in the fourth stanza when the game was out of reach.
Nick Hempen led the charge for Salem and was the only Wildcat in double figures, as the senior netted twelve points. Grant Pyatt led three Mt. Zion players in double figures with seventeen points.
Salem opens the Centralia 3A Regional Monday night against the Olney Tigers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.
