Cardinals Pitchers and Catchers Report
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) - Mike Mathenypulled into a parking lot at spring training at 5:30 a.m. Monday, anxious to
start his second season as the St. Louis Cardinals manager.
He was joined by several pitchers and
catchers, one day before the mandatory reporting day in Jupiter, Fla. Matheny
says he was impressed by the turnout, which included Yadier Molina and pitchers
Adam Wainwright and Jake Westbrook.
The Cardinals are coming off a season in
which they lost in Game 7 of the NLCS to San Francisco after building a 3-1
series lead. They have since learned that veteran starter Chris Carpenter
likely will not pitch this season after experiencing pain in his right arm.
