Boys High School Basketball Round-Up: Centralia's Lee Bennett Wins 400th Game; Patoka Wins Two At Wayne CityCentralia High School basketball coach Lee Bennett posted his 400th career victory with the Orphan's 36 to 26 win over Mascoutah Saturday night. The Orphans were trailing in the low scoring game 13 to 11 at half-time before going on a 9-0 run to start the second half. Centralia's Jake Wood led all scorers with 13 points, including seven in the 2nd half scoring run. The win improves the Orphans to 5-3 and drops Mascoutah to 2-5. Bennett is now in his 20th year of coaching.
Centralia High School officials have announced that complete books of Holiday Tournament tickets will go on sale Monday for the 70th annual Centralia Holiday Tournament. They will be available at the Athletic Director's office from eight to four Monday through Thursday and eight to three on Friday.
Patoka picked up two wins at the Wayne City Tournament Saturday. They beat Crab Orchard 65 to 41 and Clay City-West Richland 46 to 40. In other games at the tournament, Edwards County beat Wayne City 51 to 34, Thompsonville beat Bluford Webber Township 40 to 29.
At the Southern Illinois Tournament, Carbondale beat Herrin 53 to 31, Gallatin County topped Goreville 60 to 59 and Harrisburg topped Alton Marquette 62 to 53.
