Wreck Causes Power Pole To Block Traffic on North Poplar in Centralia

By Bruce Kropp, WJBD News

Traffic was detoured off the 500 block of North Poplar in Centralia for more than four hours Saturday after a car ran off an icy section of pavement and sheered off an electric pole.

Centralia Police say the pole then fell across the southbound leg of U.S. 51 blocking traffic until Ameren could remove the pole and make repairs.  The driver of the car, 28-year-old Jason Smith of South Oak in Sandoval, escaped injury.  He was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The crash occurred at 10:52 Saturday morning.
