Waltonville Man Dies in Early Morning Fire ThursdayA Waltonville man died at his home in an early morning fire Thursday. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department reports the fire occurred at 613 Main Street in Waltonville. By the time firefighters arrived on scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames. Due to the intensity of the fire, Ashley, Sesser and Woodlawn Fire departments were also dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found 53-year-old Frank Horton dead inside. The Jefferson County Coroner states the cause of death is due to possible smoke inhalation, and that no foul play is suspected at this time. Horton was the only one inside the residence.
The Illinois State Fire Marshall reports the fire began in kitchen area, with no exact cause at this time. The Illinois State Fire Marshall, Jefferson County Coroner, and Jefferson County Sheriff's Department are investigating. The fire call came in at 4:22 Thursday morning.
