Unemployment Down in Illinois(Springfield, IL) -- More people are finding work in Illinois. Greg Rivara with the Department of Employment Security says the state added nearly 26-thousand jobs in September and October. That's the largest two-month gain since May of 2010. Rivara says more jobs meant a dip in the unemployment rate.
"The unemployment rate fell in September and again in October. We're around 8.9%--still unacceptably high, but its showing progress" Rivara said.
The biggest job gains were seen in the professional and business services and leisure and hospitality sectors. The state's unemployment rate is still higher than the national rate, but Rivara says the state's rate has only been lower than the national rate six times since January of 2000.
