Two People Injured by Drunk Driver in Fayette County Crash Saturday
The Illinois State Police reports 20-year-old Gavin Eckiss of Lafayette, Indiana, was traveling on County Road 2400 East when he failed to yield to traffic onto Illinois Route 185. He pulled out in front of a vehicle, driven by 44-year-old Anthony Harpster of St. Peter, and struck him. Two passengers in his vehicle, 44-year-old Shelly Harpster and 16-year-old Alexis Harpster, both of St. Peter, suffered minor injuries and were taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment. All three were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Eckiss was cited for failure to yield at a stopped intersection, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal consumption of liquor by a minor, not wearing his seat belt, failure to notify the Secretary of State of an address change, and driving on a revoked license. The crash occurred at 4:56 Saturday afternoon.
