Two people face drug charges following separate arrests in Centralia.
Centralia Police say 25-year-old Demetrice Lockett of Minnesota Street in Mulberry Grove was arrested following a foot chase on charges of resisting a peace officer, cannabis trafficking, and criminal trespass to land. Police report they initially wanted to question Lockett for being out after curfew on Marion County Housing Authority property at Jackson and Rexford. He allegedly ran on foot. An officer followed Lockett in the squad car until other officers set up a perimeter. The Centralia canine was then released and located Lockett. Police found $265 and six individual packages of cannabis weighing a total of 5.8 grams in Lockett's possession. An additional $102 was later found in two folds on Lockett's jacket.
State Police arrested 27-year-old Michelle Williams of Main Street in Mt. Vernon earlier Thursday night for alleged driving under the influence of drugs and possession of a controlled substance. The Centralia canine alerted on the car. A drug pipe was allegedly found in the car. The trooper later found a black container with three plastic bags with suspected cocaine and another drug pipe under the seat of his squad car. Williams later allegedly admitted she had placed the drugs there.
Both Lockett and Williams were taken to the Marion County Jail pending the filing of formal charges.
