Three Charged in Death of 14-Month-Old Cahokia BoyBELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Three adults are facing charges in the death of a Cahokia infant who allegedly was beaten by a 9-year-old boy.
The Belleville News Democrat reports that the infant's mother, 22-year-old Alisha Johnson, was charged Wednesday with five counts of endangering the life of a child. Identical charges were filed against 31-year-old Melissa Wilbourn and 42-year-old David Hollis. Prosecutors claim the adults allowed to infant to be left unsupervised in a Cahokia home in August with four other children, ages 11 and younger.
The 9-year-old boy was charged with first-degree murder but St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly says he cannot be tried as an adult. Kelly is declining to release details about the death. Neither the victim nor the 9-year-old are being identified because of their ages.
