Tax Season Opens In Illinois

By Metro News

Springfield, IL  --  Tax season is officially underway in Illinois.  Department of Revenue Spokeswoman Sue Hofer says people should remember their exemption allowance went up by fifty bucks this year.

"This is something that we work very hard to do, recognizing as Cost goes up, it's important for the exemption to reflect the economic reality that it costs more in Illinois or anywhere else", said Hofer.

Eighty-percent of people filed electronic returns last year.  Hofer encourages everyone to file electronically, even couples who are engaged in a civil union can do so for the first time this year.  Those who file electronically get their money back faster.
